At The Cross
Oh Lord You've searched me
You know my way
Even when I fail You
I know You love me
Your holy presence
Surrounding me
In every season
I know You love me
I know You love me
At the cross I bow my knee
Where Your blood was shed for me
There's no greater love than this
You have overcome the grave
Your glory fills the highest place
What can separate me now
You go before me
You shield my way
Your hand upholds me
I know You love me
And when the earth fades
Falls from my eyes
And You stand before me
I know You love me
I know You love me
You tore the veil, You made a way
When You said that it is done

Dear uncle,
Did you realise that when you were wheeled in yesterday, your life was going to change completely?
even though you were still so lucid and talking normally to the nurses and paramedics?
all you complained about was some head pain and bleeding from your nose and abrasions,
but you still had all your mental faculties intact.
then within half an hour, everything went downhill from there.
you started vomitting blood, started having focal neurological deficits;
and all too soon you became unrousable.
The flurry of activity after that left you with tubes everywhere,
and it became clearer when the scans came back.
Massive subdural, subarachnoid, intraventricular bleeds with midline shift. And with that came the realisation that you are probably not going to make it.

If there's one thing i've learnt so far in A&E, it's to never try and kill yourself by overdosing on pills or by drinking weird things like bleach.
Firstly, you'll be in lots of pain,
vomiting violently as ur body tries to expel what you've ingested.
then when u've been rushed to the A&E, drs & nurses do a whole host of invasive procedures to purge you.
If its pills that u swallowed, they will do a gastric lavage which involves inserting a tube the size of a small pipe down ur throat into ur stomach to wash out all ur stomach contents. Not pretty and definitely not enjoyable.
Next u will have to drink a whole bottle of activated charcoal which probably tastes as bad as it looks. (the ones without sorbitol)
By this stage, u should probably be gagging and vomitting out charcoal.
Should you aspirate what u drank(eg. bleach), u can get chemical lung infections. once again a painful process.
To add insult to injury, drs will start inserting needles into ur arm and do ABGs etc.. Having a needle inserted into ur wrist/groin to draw arterial blood? VERY PAINFUL.
In essence: Drug overdosing or drinking caustic substances is a very painful way to kill yourself.

had my overnight ambulance run yesterday following scdf paramedics around...i requested to follow the ambulance stationed @ geylang fire post, hoping to see some action (eg. fights, drunks, etc.) in geylang on a fri night....alas, there wasnt alot of such action, although it was really an eye-opener driving along lorongs 10/12 @ 3am on a sat morning finding the entire place crowded with pple just mingling (or rather, oogling at members of the opposite sex).... had 4 calls during the whole run: one vagrant with bleeding scabs all over his body, one chinese worker having seizures in his dorm, one assault resulting in a forehead laceration and one guest in a hotel having an MI right in front of us but refusing to go to the hospital....all in all, it was quite an interesting experience sitting in the back of an ambulance as it goes thru cycle after cycle of speeding & then sudden braking (those with motion sickness, u have been forewarned)...had quite nice paramedics with me who refused to allow me to help them carry stuff or even jump out of the back door for fear that i would hurt myself...haha...looking forward to my last ambulance run on mon, this time during the day....hope i see more interesting cases...

remind me never to want a tan for a long, long time.
currently i'm sunburnt from cycling in what turned out to be very hot weather @ east coast.. was supposed to go to pulau ubin with my youth grp but the morning weather forcast (as checked by hui jun) was supposedly showers for the next few hours...so hui jun decided to change the venue to east coast park instead, which as it turns out, was totally devoid of rain today....anyway, had a very fun time today trying out the changi coast park connector which was really quite scenic at parts & very much reminded us of pulau ubin...plus we got to see an overturned horseshoe crab stranded on a sand bar desperately trying to right itself but finally giving up when the tide receded.. i REALLY REALLY want to try cycling from east coast to changi beach park and perhaps pasir ris park one day! or maybe at night when it's not so scorchingly hot =S

mental note to self: wear sunblock next time
